Whether using regular braces or Invisalign, Dream Smile Dental focuses on proper physical development of your child when doing orthodontic treatment. Practicing by a concept known as neuromuscular dentistry, we plan treatment to ensure that the relationship between the upper and lower jaws will be ideal. This is a tremendous factor in your child’s future health.
The Invisalign Teen™ system straightens your teeth with a series of custom-made clear aligners, which are comfortable and practically invisible. It was developed with leading orthodontists. And it works – nearly one million patients worldwide have made Invisalign their clear choice.
The Goal: Proper Physical Development
Neuromuscular Orthodontics is a more progressive treatment than traditional braces. As opposed to only focusing on a straight dental arch (straight teeth), NM orthodontics also focuses on the relationship between the upper and lower jaws in order to establish the correct and healthy bite. This leads to proper future development of your child.
The goal is to minimize airway obstruction that is naturally caused by the lower jaw being in an incorrect position. Utilizing computerized jaw tracking, we are able to find the optimal position of the lower jaw and non-invasively move teeth to this position for proper jaw alignment. Once the jaw is in alignment, the rest of the skeletal system reaches equilibrium. This decreases future postural problems that are extremely common.
The result: Healthy Heart
This ideal bite also decreases the chances of non symmetric facial features caused by imperfect jaw alignment. The ideal bite also prevents mouth breathing and narrowing of the airway which can lead to sleep apnea and heart disease. Examples of this can be seen in the image of the young girl to the right.
Taking factors into account such as the airway, proper jaw alignment, posture, facial muscle activity and the teeth position, we are able to help avoid these future problems that often arise from an improper bite sometimes caused by incorrect treatment or non-treatment.
The benefit: A Pain Free Life
Additionally, there will be a significantly smaller chance for unexpected surgery or the development of TMJ disorder which millions of Americans suffer from but don't actually know that the discomfort they experience comes from a mis-aligned bite. Symptoms of TMJ disorder include
Headaches
Jaw Joint Pain
Jaw Joint noise or clicking
Limited mouth opening
Ear Congestion
Dizziness
Ringing in the Ears
Difficulty swallowing
Loose teeth
Clenching or Grinding
Facial Pain
Sensitive Teeth
Nervousness or Insomnia
Chewing Difficulties
Neck Pain
Postural Problems
